?? Who Left the Dog Out ??

Mount Union Fire Dept - Huntingdon Co. Company 7

That is who.

Today, 9/9/07, Sue & Jeff Furry and Ken North ventured over to Huntingdon County to bring back the 1976 Mack 1250 gpm Pumper pictured above. Thanks to Chief Terry Morder, Jr. and the Mount Union FD for offering to donate this Pumper to the Franklin County Public Safety Training Center. Two weeks prior, Dale Carbaugh and Kenny traveled over to give the piece the once over. A problem with the pump was noticed and Chief Morder, Jr. and the MUFD agreed to allow us to take it down to Interstate Truck Equipment, to allow their mechanics to have a better look at what might be wrong with the pump. If it isn't too expensive to repair, we will finish the transfer paperwork to own the apparatus, if it is then MUFD will take it back and sell it as is. Hopefully, the problem identified will be a minor gliche and we will be able to have this unit at our facility full-time. When that occurs more information about the unit will be posted. On behalf of the FCFCA, I thank Chief Morder and the MUFD for being so willing to work with us.

Special Note to everyone: While this piece of apparatus is at our facility, unless Kenny has given you approval to operate the vehicle, DO NOT OPERATE IT. Once we get it here permanently, we will be developing guidelines and training sessions on the operation of the unit.

Love those Puppy Dogs.

August 4th, 2007 proved to be a great day in the history of the Franklin County Fire Chiefs' Association, as we celebrated the graduation of 30 students from the 1st Junior Firefighter Training Academy held at the Training Center from July 29th through August 4th. During the week, the participants were introduced to several leaders in the Fire Service and was provided some valuable education. They learnt about the need to have Accountability, Leadership, Professional, Safety, and Teamwork qualities as a firefighter. This was the first step to help them make the change to have:

DID YOU HEAR?

Look at me closely, what do you see?

Is there anything different from anyone else in me?

Do you see fatigue in my eyes?

The smudges on my face,

tell you I've just come from a terrible place.

Where ashes are still smoldering, smoke continues to rise?

There is pain for innocent people,

I don't bother to disguise.

I'm devoted to saving other peoples' things and my friend,

let me tell you, I'm not for gain.

I don't get paid for this deed that I do

but it makes my day,

knowing I've helped save a child or two.

From losing their home and

all they love and

maybe being sent to heaven above.

I want you to know

you can count on me, to do all I can,

Because I am proud to be -
